Bringing the Heart of Mexico to the Netherlands

Belén Gutierrez, born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, arrived in the Netherlands in 2016 with a heart full of dreams and a deep love for her culture. Though she knew few people upon her arrival, Belén quickly found a way to connect with her new surroundings through something universal: food. She began cooking authentic Mexican dishes and inviting her neighbors and newfound friends to taste the rich, vibrant flavors of her homeland.

What started as friendly gatherings soon became a cultural bridge, with Dutch friends and neighbors falling in love with Mexican cuisine. Encouraged by their enthusiasm, Belén turned her passion into a small business, sharing the essence of her roots through her dishes.

In 2020, inspired by her desire to bring even more of Mexico’s culinary traditions to the Netherlands, Belén set her sights on a new challenge: Mexican baking. That May, she baked her first concha, a traditional sweet bread, and from that moment on, she hasn’t stopped. Mextiza was born, a bakery where Mexican expats reconnect with the flavors of home, and Dutch locals discover the warmth and richness of Mexican panadería.

With over 20 years of experience in the culinary world, Belén has infused every loaf, pastry, and pan dulce with a passion for excellence and authenticity. Mextiza is more than a bakery—it’s a slice of Mexico, lovingly crafted in every bite.

"Through Mextiza, I share a piece of my heart and culture with every loaf we bake. It’s a way for people to taste the warmth of Mexico, no matter where they are."
